Law Day Activities
About Law Day
In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th U.S. President, established Law Day as a day of national dedication to the principles of government under law. In 1961 by a joint Congressional resolution, May 1st was designated as the official date for celebrating Law Day in the United States.
On behalf of the Judges of the Circuit Court of Lake County, Chief Judge Daniel B. Shanes is pleased to announce the activities planned for Law Day 2026. The 2026 Law Day theme "The Rule of Law and the American Dream" reminds us that the rule of law - the idea that no person is above the law - is what ensures the rights of the people to live their lives as freely as possible and to pursue their dreams.
Chief Judge Daniel B. Shanes and the Judges of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit are hopeful that the Lake County students will feel inspired to partake in the contests and are looking forward to receiving the entries.
