We are excited to share that Judges from the 19th Judicial Circuit have volunteered to participate in a literacy project through the Illinois Judges Association (IJA) during February. The IJA is dedicated to promoting literacy among students in our local communities.

Throughout the month, Judges will be visiting K–5 classrooms across the state as guest readers, bringing stories to life and inspiring young minds.

This year, we have a wonderful selection of books covering topics such as the importance of voting, equality, and influential historical figures like Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Each book offers enriching lessons that serve as a great springboard for discussions about history, law, and reading.

Your students will not only enjoy an engaging story but will also have the opportunity to ask questions and even try out the Judge’s gavel!

If you believe this experience would benefit your students, we have Judges eager to spend an hour in your classroom—reading, sharing their journey in law, and fostering a love for literacy.

Let us know if you'd like to participate!
